VMware Retail dmg Guide (InstallESD.dmg)

Question

Retail dmg method

If your machine is part of the mainstream configuration or you have unsupported Hackintosh hardware but still want to use MAC then this article will help you .The following article use virtual machine method using VMware Workstation ,(This tutorial configuration needs: support hardware virtualization technology (Virtualization) of the CPU. Current mainstream Intel Core series and AMD Athlon series CPU virtualization technology is supported, the name was Intel VT-x and AMD-V.)

1.Download Mac OS X Mavericks, & extract to get "Install Mac OS X Maverick.dmg" (don't run the installer otherwise it'll delete itself) --> Download App store or Any Torrent but its free by Apple.

2.Convert the installer into an ISO:

On Windows, use dmg2img to convert:

- Because "Install Mac OS X Mavericks.dmg" is actually an archive (in XAR format), use

7-Zip program to extract the actual setup dmg file which is located at "Install Mac OS XMavericks.dmg/InstallMacOSX.pkg/InstallESD.dmg"

OR

Download Mavericks app which is in a zip format from App store and navigate this

Maverick app/ShowPackageContains/Contains/SharedSupport/ InstallESD.dmg

- With InstallESD.dmg, run in Windows Command Prompt the following command:

dmg2img -i "InstallESD.dmg" -o "Setup.iso"

to get the actual setup file in ISO format.

3.Install VMware Workstation 10.

4.Run VMWare Unlocker 1.2.0

Run "unlock-all-v120/windows/install.cmd" (see unlock-all-v120/readme.txt for more info and other options) See Guide Here for Unlocking VMware

5.Create a new virtual machine for the Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks (64 bit) Source installation be the CD/DVD

Choose you desired Language

x375__x_install-os-x-mavericks-in-vmware

Format you Disk for Mac

6.Install Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks inside the virtual machine
(REMEMBER to format the disk with Disk Utilities during the installation)

x376__x_install-os-x-mavericks-in-vmware

x377__x_install-os-x-mavericks-in-vmware

And install

x379__x_install-os-x-mavericks-in-vmware

7.Install VMWare tools to get the native resolution using darwin.iso that came with the unlocker.

8. That's all.

2:- For Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6, you don't need to find "InstallESD.dmg", just convert the original "DMG" (>6GB) to iso format using dmg2img.

Which bios does you have Legacy/EFI/UEF that is also important ...Make sure use EFI and UEFI or

Use any live cd like robot or hackboot

Or use another guide the distro guide

    • Hi guys, I installed the Hackintosh Sierra Zone image and most things work except my graphics. It detects as AMD R9 290X when I use FakeID 0x67B01002 on boot, however I only get 7MB of VRAM with no QE. My screen also tears as well. Hope someone can help me - Intel Core i5 2500K - AMD R9 290X 4GB - ASUS P8Z77-V LX
    • Hey guys, I'm looking into dual booting OSX Sierra or High Sierra on my ASUS Zenbook Pro UX501V. I use a lot of mac only software like sketch at uni and it would make my life a lot easier to just be able to boot into it instead of going to campus to use one of their Mac's. I'm currently running windows 10 and would prefer to not have to lose all my files or reinstall windows 10, however if this is unavoidable I would consider it. Specs are Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
      GPU    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960m 4gb DDR5
      RAM    12GB DDR4
      BIOS Version/Date    American Megatrends Inc. N501VW.300, 9/05/2016
BIOS Mode    UEFI Does anyone know of any guides? Or has done this before? Even a link to point me on my way. Looked into the clover bootloader and I'm under the impression that's the route I'll have to take. Thanks for any help you may have
